Kashmir holds landmark Zubin Mehta concert (USA News)

Prestigious Indian director Zubin Mehta is leading a show by the Bavarian State Orchestra in Indian-regulated Kashmir.

Hundreds were required to go to the show, had by the German consulate in the Shalimar Gardens close Srinagar.

Zubin Mehta has said he trusted "to spread the message of peace with this execution".

At the same time separatists are challenging against the show which they say legitimises Delhi's manage in the questioned area.

Veteran separatist guide Syed Ali Shah Geelani called for a day-long strike on Saturday.

Markets were shut and Srinagar ground to a stop, says the BBC's Vineet Khare in the city.

In the middle of overwhelming security, ways heading the Sher-e-Kashmir park, where a parallel dissent show had been arranged, have been blocked.

Khurram Parvez, one of the dissent show's organisers, said members were not being permitted to enter the venue, and that their stage had been usurped.

"Legitimising an occupation through a musical show is totally unsuitable," he told the BBC.

'Achieve the hearts'

Kashmir, asserted by both India and Pakistan, has seen a furnished rebellion against Indian govern since 1989.
Lately brutality in Kashmir has decreased from its top in the 1990s, yet the explanations for the revolt are still a long way from determined.

Talking in the Indian capital, Delhi, a day soon after the show, Mehta said: "I have a specific end goal, which is to have the endowments of the individuals as music is the main dialect I know and make plans to spread the message of peace with this execution."

The German diplomat said it intended to "achieve the hearts of the Kashmiris with a message of trust and support".

The show will be telecast live on many TV slots as far and wide as possible, reports say.

Laborers in the Shalimar Gardens used Friday giving fulfilling touches to the immense stage, checking the lights, sound frameworks and many wellsprings.

Security is tight in Srinagar with countless and paramilitaries conveyed on the ways hinting at the show venue.

Checkpoints have been set up close to the Dal Lake and all vehicles tend to be checked and individuals seem to be searched before being permitted in.

Kashmir's police boss Abdul Ghani Mir told the BBC that all efforts to establish safety were set up for the show.
