COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A couple of weeks prior we met Amanda Davis-Suddoth.
She won our week by week Feel Good Friday honor from Key Bank due to her work to begin Crosses For Losses after the Black Forest Fire crushed her group.
She let us know about the individuals she's been making a difference. Chris Schickler's name came up
"He's only an exceptional youngster," she said, holding back tears. As we pressed on to hear Chris' story, we needed to do the same.
Chris' house was one of the 500 and above eradicated by the most dangerous fire in Colorado history.
"He and his family lost everything," Amanda said. "There is nothing left of their home. Nothing whatsoever."
All the family has left is their business, where Chris meets expectations: the Firehouse on the Run BBQ in Colorado Springs. Chris does a tad of everything for them, Amanda said.
"He works the smoker, he works the money register, he stocks, he cleans," Amanda said. "He does everything."
One evening while enduring to check at the family's restaurant, Amanda could tell something was troubling Chris.
"I said, 'Chris what did you lose? What would we be able to assist with?'" Amanda said. "He said, 'Nothing. I'm recently tired of catching wind of individuals adage how their enclosures got blazed when we lost everything.'"
Amanda continued pressing Chris to figure out what the one thing was that he missed the most. It makes was a picture he attracted the sixth evaluation.
Chris is a colossal Baltimore Ravens fan. He's adored them since the time that he was a youngster. He took weeks to engraving a drawing of Ray Rice, and took the attracting to the Broncos playoff diversion a year ago, where he got Terrell Suggs to sign it.
"It was just completely wonderful," his father Jeff Schickler said. "It was an incredible occasion to go up there and watch him get it marked. Only a flawless day."
Chris wanted to get the drawing confined right after the fiery breakout. It was such a cherished ownership for his offspring, Jeff said, "I can't accept he didn't make it out of the house with it." And yet, terrified for his existence and his family, it was yet an alternate treasure lost to the blast.
We knew we could never supplant the representation, yet a few parts of our staff here at Fox31 Denver connected with the Ravens all the same. Their reaction cleared Chris out.
The group mail him a marked photograph, marked caps and shirts and a moving letter.
"The whole Baltimore Ravens family was crushed to catch wind of the effect the Black Forest Fire had on you and your family… " Chris read out noisy. That was the extent that he made it.
"Goodness," he said, in tears. "I don't even comprehend what to say."
In the solicitation he sent to the Ravens, Fox31 Denver's Ken Clark solicited one final thing – only one misfortune in the not so distant future to the Broncos. As Clark said taking after the Broncos 49-27 win, "Those Ravens simply continue delivering."
